Amazon Trips 4 days: A mysterious, almost prehistoric look to the landscape is provided by the often common presence of tree ferns. They are true ferns, but they grow to the size of small trees. Small ferns are also often abundant. Mosses, lichens and ferns are some of the oldest plants on earth and interestingly, they all depend upon mobile sperm for sexual reproduction. Thus, rain has to fall to enable the plants ‘sperm to travel over the wet surfaces of the plant, with the end goal of finding an egg and reproducing. Of course this process is inextricably linked to the watery origins of these plants in Manu Peruvian Jungle.
In many Andean myths, the cloud forest is considered a realm of moral obscurity, of evil and of treachery. The foundations of this belief could be due to an Inca legend. This legend recalls that Indians from the lowland rainforest are said to have climbed up through the cloud forest and sacked the Incas ‘capital of Cusco, not once, but several times in Manu Peruvian Jungle. Cloud forests do support numerous species of plants and animals that are found in lowland rainforest, but they also harbor many endemic species, like the Spectacled Bear and the Cock-of-the-Rocks. Out of all the tropical ecosystems the cloud forest is the least studied. Indeed, high levels of endemism could be a defining characteristic for tropical cloud forests. In the tropical Andes, about 40% of the bird species are endemic, compared with 19% in Amazonia. New species of birds, obviously endemics, has only teen discovered recently, because some cloud forest are so remote and difficult to reach to manu peruvian Jungle.
Obviously, the persistent cloud cover results in a considerable reduction of sunlight in cloud forests compared with lowland rainforests. There is high precipitation in the form of both rainfall up to 6 m a year and also from the direct interception of moisture from the clouds. With cool temperatures and abundant moisture, generally there is low evapotranspiration. In a process called “cloud stripping”, the leaves cause the condensation of moisture from the clouds. Water continually forms on plant surfaces and drips towards the ground. Not surprisingly, the soil is wet and at times even waterlogged in Manu Peruvian Jungle.
Manu Peruvian Jungle this tour is designed for those who do not possess too much time, but desire to experience the Manu National Park! During the Manu Peruvian Jungle, you visit the Culture Zone of the Manu National Park offering a visit of 3 kinds of forests: Andean highland forest, an elfin forest and a cloud forest! The latter is the only place to spot a cock of the rock (Peruvian national bird) and a woolly monkey!!. The highest spot of the Manu Peruvian Jungle reaches 3,600 m.a.s.l. and the lowest is only 400 m.a.s.l. situated in the Amazon Basin. From flora, we can view a variety of orchids, mosses, ferns, etc. Finally, we get to Pilcopata (700 masl) where our first accommodation – Tikari Lodge is placed.
